OBJECTIVES:

This programme aims to help aspiring students to build a sound foundation for their higher education and allow students to gain confidence. Upon completion of this programme, students will be equipped with a range of basic knowledge and skills that will enhance their competencies in areas for business and hospitality fields. Students will then learn to apply these knowledge and skills appropriately. There are 5 modules and are as follows:

• Fundamental of Business Management
• Academic Presentation Skills
• Fundamental of Business Communication
• Fundamental of Accounting
• Fundamental of Programming
• Fundamental of Media Production

 

LEARNING OUTCOME:

1. INTRODUCTION TO HOSPITALITY
At the end of this module, students will:

  • Have an overview of the hospitality industry
  • Understand the characteristics and factors that will affect the industry
  • Understand the importance of service
  • Be equipped with fundamental skills required to excel in the industry

2. FUNDAMENTAL OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
At the end of this module, students will:

  • Understand the nature and purpose of businesses and the resources required
  • Understand the importance of business management
  • Understand the basics of managing a business and its structure
  • Know the business objectives and the perspectives of stakeholders
  • Understand the major roles in business organisations
  • Be equipped with basic management skills

3. ACADEMIC PRESENTATION SKILLS
At the end of this module, students will:

  • Understand the significance of Public Speaking.
  • Be equipped with formal figure of speeches that can be used in presentations
  • Know how to present their ideas and speak clearly and formally
  • Understand the various presentations’ techniques.
  • Understand the things required for an excellent presentation such as effective application of visual aids
  • Know how to use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint confidently

4. FUNDAMENTAL TO BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
At the end of this module, students will:

  • Be equipped with professional vocabulary that can be used for communication
  • Be able to be aware of their values, dispositions and communication style through their personal and professional communication
  • Be able to understand preparation of memo, letters and email strategies in their communications with global audience.
  • Overall be more confident in communicating professionally

5. FUNDAMENTAL OF ACCOUNTING
At the end of this module, students will:

  • Understand the basic concepts and terminology of accounting
  • Understand and apply the accounting process in business
  • Apply fundamental accounting concepts in recording and reporting business transactions
  • Prepare basic financial statements and analyse financial reports for decision making purposes
  • Understand and apply the ethical principles of accounting

6. FUNDAMENTAL OF PROGRAMMING
At the end of this module, students will:

  • Describe and use the main elements of computer systems and be able to use these systems and present information in an ethical and professional manner
  • Appreciate the need and relevance of I/O, data types, including arrays, numbering systems, functions, algorithms, loops, etc.
  • Use a high-level programming language together with its integrated development environment and develop tests to find faults and improve software robustness and correctness based on the workshop tasks
  • Analyse a problem and produce an algorithm and then a structured program to solve the problem using a top-down technique such as stepwise refinement of pseudo-code

7. FUNDAMENTAL OF MEDIA PRODUCTION
At the end of this module, students will:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of digital media practice and culture
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of video post-production
  • Create a music video following set briefs
  • Reflect on and evaluate critically their own performance and abilities

Entry requirements

Minimum Age 16 years
Academic qualification Completed GCE O’level or its equivalency in the respective home country
Proficiency Level Obtain at least 50% marks in Stanfort Academy English Language Placement Test (equivalent to IELTS 5.0 in reading and writing)

  • PRESENTATION/ CLASS TEST: 20%
  • PARTICIPATION: 10%
  • BEHAVIOUR: 10%

ASSESSMENT GRADING CRITERIA

  • High Distinction (HD) – 80 Marks and Above
  • Distinction (D) – 70 to 79
  • Credit (C) – 60 to 69
  • Pass (P) – 50 to 59
  • Fail (F) – 49 Marks and below

AWARD CRITERIA

  • Attain Minimum “Pass” in all modules
  • No outstanding payment due
  • Maintain 75% of Attendance of the course duration
  • Completed ‘Evaluation Form’ to provide feedback

EXPECTED EXAMINATION RESULTS RELEASE DATE

  • 1 month after the examination

EXPECTED AWARD CONFERMENT DATE

  • within 2 months after successful completion of all modules
