    The BSc (Hons) Airline, Airport and Aviation Management course aims to equip students with the skills and competencies needed to build successful careers in the aviation industry. It provides a comprehensive understanding of airline and airport operations as well as aviation strategic management. The aviation sector demands a wide and complex range of skills, encompassing the use of cutting-edge technologies, the management of onboard services, and the efficient operation of airlines and airports. As a highly progressive and competitive industry, aviation offers excellent examples of modern business and management practices.

    This course focuses on preparing students to manage such high-tech environments. Airlines are making significant strides in improving operational efficiency, communication, and customer satisfaction. Innovations involving artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, chatbots, and optimisation tools are becoming integral to their operations. Furthermore, it explores how such technologies can build distinctive competitive advantages and addresses innovation in the aerospace sector aimed at reducing aviation’s environmental impact.

  1. CA4050SR – Air Cargo Services and Operations
      This module will give an overview of the modern-day cargo industry and its operational challenges and opportunities. The module will focus on how the industry has evolved and who the key players are within it. It will examine trends in existing and emergent markets and the increasing role of technology within the sector. The module will also look at relevant key pricing aspects as they relate to both normal cargo and, abnormal outsize cargo. The module will also look to study patterns in traffic flows and, a study of topical issues applicable to air cargo managers in today’s turbulent trading environment.
  2. CA4052SR – Airport Management
      This module provides an overview of the key functions of airport management essential for the seamless operation of the global aviation system. Airports play a critical role in processing both air passengers and cargo, ensuring that aviation activities are conducted safely, securely, and efficiently. Airports are multifaceted businesses with diverse responsibilities. They act as landlords, provide core infrastructure such as runways and terminals, host retail environments, and support airline operations. The scale and scope of these activities vary across different types of commercial airports, ranging from small local facilities to regional airports, international gateways, and major global hubs.
  3. CA4058SR – Introduction to Transport Economics
      This module serves as a comprehensive exploration and elucidation of the fundamental principles that underpin both micro and macroeconomics, essential for grasping the intricacies of airport and airline operations. Within this framework, the module delves into the analysis of supply and demand, explores the principles governing costs, revenue, and pricing dynamics, and explains concepts related to the productivity and performance of airlines and airports.
  4. CA4053SR – Fundamentals of Airline Management and Operations
      The module introduces the fundamentals of Airline Operations, current issues, and their applications in the industry. Airline operations present a striking dichotomy: each day, airlines safely transport millions of passengers around the world, yet they often fail to deliver on more routine aspects—such as ground crews arriving late to open aircraft doors, lost baggage, or millions of pounds lost due to chronically underutilised aircraft.
  5. CA4061SR – Principle of Aviation Management
      This module focuses on management and aims to develop students as managers. Managers are crucial to getting things done, for example, they plan, organise, lead and coordinate the work of others in order to meet organisational goals efficiently and effectively. The challenges of managing in today’s ever-changing, increasingly uncertain, complex economic environment requires managers to have the knowledge, ability and skills to take action, such as managing information, delegating tasks, setting goals, building teams, motivating others and, along with numerous other activities, achieve organisational success.
  6. MC4161SR – Principles of Marketing: for Creative Industries and Aviation
      The module aims to provide an understanding of the marketing process in contemporary organisations and in the context of tangible goods and services. The service sector accounts for a significant proportion of GDP and employment in most developed economies and therefore it becomes essential for students to gain insight within the area. In this module, students are introduced to a range of marketing theories such as the marketing concept, consumer behaviour, business environmental analysis, marketing research, consumer insights applicable to tangible goods and services marketing.
  7. MC4079SR – Academic Skills
      This module will orientate you to Higher Educations and early employability planning. This module will introduce you to how the university works and how you can adapt and be successful in your studies by mastering key academic skills & employability skills; the module is designed to provide you with guidance to building core academic and professionals skills.
  8. MC4080SR – Data Analysis for Marketing and Creative Industries
      The module introduces you to a range of quantitative methods useful for understanding and describing marketing data supporting decision-making. The module adopts an applied, problem-solving approach and aims to equip you with relevant quantitative and information management skills required by employers within the marketing and creative industries. The module also aims to enhance your employability and provide you opportunities for developing a range of key skills including, but not limited to, analysing data, application of knowledge and presenting data, data interpretation and reporting, problem solving and decision making, self / time management, digital literacy and IT skills, and numeracy / quantitative skills.

LEVEL-5

  1. CA5054SR – Airline Commercial Planning
      The module introduces the role of commercial planning for commercial airlines and in particular the evaluation of new air route development. The importance of route development cannot be underestimated for commercial airlines, but this can only be achieved by the careful evaluation of airline aircraft operations and fleet management.
  2. CA5055SR – Airline Revenue and Pricing Management
      This module examines airline pricing and revenue management, including demand forecasting, seasonal pricing, distribution systems and competitive positioning. Students will compare strategies used by full-service and low-cost airlines and explore ancillary revenues and product de-bundling.
  3. CA5056SR – Aviation Psychology and Human Factors
      This module explores aviation psychology and human factors, focusing on how human behaviour, crew interaction, fatigue, cognitive processes and mental wellbeing influence operational performance and aviation safety. Students will examine the factors that may contribute to human error, incidents and accidents, and apply relevant models to identify and reduce human-factor-related risks within the aviation industry.
  4. CA5057SR – Safety and Security in Aviation
      This module introduces key principles of aviation safety and security within the complex and highly regulated airline and airport environment. Students will examine the roles of regulators, government agencies and international aviation organisations, with a particular focus on Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Security Management Systems (SeMS). The module also develops practical skills in identifying, assessing and managing operational hazards, threats and risks.
  5. CA5058SR – Risk and Crisis Management
      This module introduces risk management and operational resilience within the aviation and travel industry. Students will examine the internal and external risks faced by airlines, airports and related organisations, and develop practical skills in assessing, evaluating, mitigating and monitoring these risks. The module also explores how aviation organisations can maintain effective and efficient operations during challenging business conditions, disruptions and unforeseen events.
  6. LT5078SR – Sustainability, Business and Responsibility
      The module addresses the critical issue of sustainability, explaining why the current human lifestyle is unsustainable. It shows the consequences of humanity’s exploitation of planetary resources and the impact it has on humans, the planet, and businesses. It focuses on understanding how businesses affect sustainability and how sustainability affects businesses, in order to recognise the fundamental need to change business models into more sustainable ones.
  7. MC5158SR – Research Methods for Marketing and Creative Industries
      This module introduces the theoretical and practical foundations of empirical social science research for marketing and creative enterprises. Students will learn how to select appropriate research designs based on their research questions and available evidence, while evaluating the strengths, limitations and implications of different methodological choices.
  8. MN5070SR – The Practice of Consultancy
      This module introduces the practical skills and analytical methods required for management consultancy. Students will learn how to diagnose organisational issues, apply appropriate research methods and analytical frameworks, and develop evidence-based recommendations. The module also explores the use of artificial intelligence, advanced analytics and statistical interpretation in consultancy, while strengthening essential skills in critical thinking, client communication, relationship management and effective presentation of findings.

  1. CA6058SR – Airline and Airport Strategic Management
      This module introduces strategic analysis and planning for airlines and airports, focusing on competitive positioning, environmental analysis and internal capabilities. Students will apply frameworks such as Porter’s industry analysis and the resource-based view, while exploring the importance of vision, mission and market positioning. Through airline simulation, students will also design and manage a commercial airline operation, balancing costs and revenues to achieve sustainable growth and profitability.
  2. CA6059SR – Airport Planning and Development
      The module introduces the key themes and understanding for airport planning and development which is a complex agenda that requires strategic over-sight. Airports are unique businesses that have many stakeholders and uniquely require local support as well as government support to succeed. They also have a unique relationship with airlines as they are symbiotic operators with airlines.
  3. CA6060SR – Financial Decision Making in Context for Aviation
      This module introduces financial management and decision-making within the aviation industry. Students will explore concepts such as the time value of money, investment appraisal, cost control, financial statement analysis, risk and return, and working capital management. The module also develops the ability to evaluate aviation business performance, assess financial health, and appraise long-term financial plans and business viability.
  4. CA6061SR – Brand Management in Aviation
      This module provides a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding on branding services and strategic brand management. It outlines the concepts and framework of branding, which increasingly is the ‘face’ of corporate strategy, providing students with the tools and techniques and concepts to improve long-term profitability via creating effective brand strategies.
  5. CA6062SR – Leading Innovation in the Aviation Industry
      This module introduces key theories and techniques in innovation and examines how innovation is led and managed within aviation organisations. Students will critically evaluate contemporary innovation processes, explore the relationship between leadership and innovation, and apply innovative approaches to real-world aviation challenges to support sustainable organisational growth.
  6. LT6091SR – Service Excellence
      This module introduces the principles and practices of service excellence within the creative and aviation industries. Students will explore how high-quality service strengthens customer loyalty, organisational reputation and competitive advantage, while developing the analytical skills needed to evaluate and improve service delivery and reflect on their own professional conduct.
  7. FE6P04SR – Dissertation
      This module aims to enable students to complete a research focused dissertation on a chosen topic or issue appropriate to their undergraduate degree. Students are required to reflect on relevant research questions, theoretical concepts/hypotheses, prior literature, ethical approaches, research methodologies and data analyses in an independent and disciplined manner. Students are expected to develop an in-depth understanding of their chosen research topics, research methods/approaches and the ability to appropriately seek out data samples required for research in a selected topic.

  • Students must obtain the commercial pilot license and study at level 4, 90 credits, and required to complete MN5070SR The Practice of Consultancy at Level 5. (OR)
  • Advanced Diploma in related field from other Private Education Institution or Foreign Education Institutions; (OR)
  • A Higher National Diploma (HND), A Foundation Degree or Equivalent International Qualification in a relevant subject; (OR)
  • A Higher National Diploma (HND) in any discipline with 2 years of related working experience; (OR)
  • Local Polytechnic Diplomas in related field with 2 years of related working experience; (OR)
  • Non-standard applicants with relevant professional certificates with minimum 4 years of related working experience will also be considered case by case basis by the University.

Marking and grades:

    Each component of assessed work is assigned a percentage mark with a pass/fail threshold at 40%. Overall average mark obtained for all modules and the dissertation, with classification thresholds for each grade of award as follows:

    • 70% - 100% - A
    • 60% - 69% - B
    • 50% - 59% - C
    • 43% - 49% - D
    • 40% - 42% - E
    • 0% - 39% - Fail

AWARD TITLES:

    At undergraduate level degrees are awarded according to the overall average mark obtained for all modules and the dissertation, with classification thresholds for each grade of award as follows:

    • First Class Honours (69.5% and above)
    • Upper Second Class Honours (59.5% - 69.49%)
    • Lower Second Class Honours (49.5%- 59.49%)
    • Third Class Honours (39.5% - 49.49%)
    • Fail (0% - 39.49%)

    At the end of each semester, module results and awards are confirmed by Assessment Boards (Subject Standards Boards and Awards Boards). Assessment Boards uphold the academic standards of your course and ensure that each student is treated fairly and equally through the assessment process.
